24) Bowl a 600 series or anything hirer than a 245 in one game. CHECK!
On good old Friday the 13th I finally got to check something off of my list. I had one of my best nights bowling ever and was only a couple pins and one really bad break off of doing something really awesome.
Game One: The 7 in a row pot had not been hit in 4 weeks and I was feeling really good about trying to make a run for it this week. I was in a very loose casual mood this week for some reason and it showed in my first ball. I hit my mark dead on, had a smooth delivery and the pins exploded. Same thing for the next two frames and then in the 4th I thought I had a good ball to keep it going but it was a tad low in the pocket and I left the four pin and picked that up. At this point I wasn't worried about the pot because Mark on my team had a run of six and he looked good for it. I also struck in the 5th and 6th frames then Mark hung the 10 pin missing his 7 in a row (Naturally we all gave him hell for it). Knowing I still had a chance for the pot I went on a tare... 7, 8, and 9 were all strikes. All I had to do was get two strikes in the 10th and I would have 7 in a row... but whats this!?! Chuck and Dave "The Machine" Pellegrino both started with a spare and have both hit the pot in the 8th. Oh well! I still had a good game on my hands. The first ball in the 10th was a strike followed by a ball that I threw the ball just a bit on the outside of my line and hit the 3 pin dead on pushing the ball through the rack with NO pin action. I was left with a 1,2,4,6,10 for a spare. Just ugly! Any way I was able to get the the 3 pins on the left but wasn't able to kick the head pin over to get the other two. 262, 80 pins over average. Not a bad game at all!

Game Two: Excited about my new high game I turned my focus on getting the 600 series out of my way. I started the second game off like the first, Boom, Boom, two strikes off the bat then I hit the pocket a little low again and left the 7 pin. No biggie... I went back to my new ball that has more of a hook to pick it up. But I started getting the gut feeling that I shouldn't use it, I should stick to my old ball and shoot straight at it. But I didn't listen and I didn't get the revs on my ball to carry it back across the lane and missed. The 4th frame I hit low again for an 8 but this time I picked up the spare. I made a slight adjustment to my starting position and went on a tare again... 5, 6, 7, and 8 were all strikes. I missed the mark on the 9th frame and missed the spare. At this point I have a 191 in the 9th and wanted to strike out in the 10 in the worst kind of way knowing now that I actually have a shot at a 700 series! Everything was perfect on my next throw but I ended up hanging the 10 pin. I picked that up and got 9 on the next throw for a final score of 210.

Game Three: So at this point I'm doing the math and I'm telling myself all I need is a 228 for a 700. I wasn't even thinking about the 600 by now... I knew I had that in the bag. I started game three with a strike and at that point I started to settle down a little bit. Second and third frames the same thing. Then in the fourth I was just a bit off and left the a 4-10 split. Rather than just get one I tried my hardest to pick it up and literally just missed the 4 pin to the left. I came back for two more strikes in the fifth and sixth. I do have to say I had no right getting the one in the sixth but I was lucky enough to have either the 4 or the 7 pin roll across the lane to knock over the 6 pin. In the 7th I left the 3,6,10 and was able to pick it up. Then in the 8th I missed the pocket again (much like the 10 frame of game one) but this time I left a 1-10 split. Getting ticked at the last couple of frames and running out of chances to get to 228 I went for the spare again and nailed it! It felt really good to make that split but now I'm doing the math again and I have to strike out in the ninth and tenth just to get a 229. Ninth frame comes up and the pins explode and then you hear a choice word or two come out of me. The ball was perfect and I left a 8-10 split... that just doesn't happen. So that was it, no 700 series. I picked off the 8 pin and came back in the tenth for a strike and a spare for a total of a 196.

I was very happy in the end. I had a new high game and I hit my 600 series (668 to be accurate). So now I have to set my sites on the next step and finish that 700 series that I missed out on.
